INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO REACH KORCULA ISLAND

1.) If you are arriving from Split airport, you can rent a car there (or take a taxi) and then follow the sign boards for the city of Split. The same guidelines apply for arriving from any country in Europe and passing Slovenia, Hungary or Italy. Once you reach Split, sign boards for Split port/Split ferry will start to appear. Following the signs, you will reach the port where information boards for Korcula/Vela Luka Island will guide you to reach the correct ferry peer. We suggest you park the car there (there is usually a line of cars, you can park behind the last one) and return to the main Jadrolinija building (you can't miss the white and blue sign and it's the only building on the left side of the port) where you will find the ticket office and there you can buy the ticket for your ferry. After buying the ticket, you can either return to your car or if you still have time, we recommend visiting the centre of Split which is only about a five-minute walk away.

You can choose between the following ferries and catamarans:

a) Ferry (for cars and passengers) from Split to Vela Luka
- low and high season
b) Catamaran (only for passengers) from Split to Vela Luka

- low and high season

c) Catamaran (only for passengers) from Split to Korcula town
Catamaran 1
Catamaran 2

2.) If you are arriving from Dubrovnik airport, you can decide to

hop on the catamaran (only for passengers) from Dubrovnik port to Korcula town
Catamaran 1, Catamaran 2

From Korcula town you need another 50 minutes with taxi, to reach your apartment.

or you can rent a car and follow the sign boards for Split to reach the main costal road. Once on the road, after some time signs for the town of Ston will start to appear – this is a coastal town connecting the main shore and the Peljesac peninsula. Follow the signs and when you have reached Ston; your next destination is Orebic town on Peljesac peninsula. This town is on the other side of the peninsula and you will need about an 1,5 hour's drive by car through Peljesac to reach it. The ride offers wonderful views of the surrounding scenery.

- Low and high season timetable for the ferry Orebic - Domince (Korcula) can be seen here

After arriving to Domince, you need about an hour to reach the apartment. Follow the signs for Vela Luka and once you arrive there, follow the detailed guidelines below to reach your final destination.

From Vela Luka you will only need about 12 minutes to reach the apartments. Head in the direction of the Vela Luka centre and drive on past a gas station. On the next crossing turn left again (follow the coastal road), continuing on for about 200 m passing the restaurant Pod Bore and then straight on following the coastal road (please refer to the below image).

Keep following the road until you reach a mini intersection where you turn right, following the sign for hotel Adria (the road goes slightly uphill) then follow the brow sign boards for villages Gradina and Stracincica.  Before the turning for Adria hotel (the road turns left downhill) drive straight ahead and follow the asphalt road towards the villages Gradina and Stracincica. Immediately after entering Gradina you will see a brown sign board for Stracincica – there you turn right to reach the macadam road and then keep driving (pine trees surround the road) for another 1000 m when you will see a covered parking area with a red roof belonging to the neighbours:

Immediately after this the roof of the parking area of your apartment Tranquillo is already visible.

The key to your apartment will be waiting for you on the inner side of the door (the entrance is from the terrace) or under the flower under the stone. Mr Ivan 00385 91 2812 937 will be taking care of your apartment who will come and greet you that same day or in the evening and give you any necessary information regarding the apartment and its surroundings. You will be asked to give your passports to her for a short while, so she can register you at the tourist department, which is common procedure in Croatia.  We are also at your disposal via SMS on our mobile phone throughout your vacation on +386 31 606 608.

RECOMMENDED ADVENTURES AND RESTAURANTS

ISLAND KORCULA

Korcula is an island, located in Middle Dalmatia with 270 m2 (46,5 km long and 5-8 km wide), from the port town of Vela Luka to the capital of Korcula, also named Korcula, there are 50 km.

1.) Zitna Bay (Zavalatica) https://goo.gl/maps/DXdvJ6SrPFLJosa98

This place is amazing, it is so peaceful and quiet and the water is perfectly crystal clear. It’s a little trek to get down to it but definitely worth it. A 30 min drive from your house. Parking available up the hill.

2.) Pupnat Bay (Pupnatska Luka) https://goo.gl/maps/M5dfpstpyZMu5f2b9: We recommend that you take a trip by car to the beautiful Pupnat Bay (a relatively unpopulated bay with a beautiful pebble beach and one typical Dalmatian restaurant) approx. 30-minute drive by car from your apartment (without shade, so we recommend bringing a sun shade with you). You can reach the beach by descending the new asphalt road and park at the end of the bay. The best time to visit this beach is in the early morning hours when there are fewer people there and the colours of the sea are breath-taking!

3.) Bacva Bay (Plaza Bacva) https://goo.gl/maps/qudSyoJy7gSpD26J9, on the way to the town of Korcula (40-minute drive from your vacation house) is approx. one half smaller than Pupnat Bay but no less charming. The best time to visit is during the day with small white pebble stones all warmed up from the sun!

4.) The town of Korcula with its medieval Old Town (about 50 minute drive from your vacation house). Some people affectionately refer to it as little Dubrovnik. The town of Korcula is an annual host of Knights games called Moreska which are a wonderful tourist attraction, especially for children.

Sword dance Moreska

They take place in the old city centre in the amphiteater under the stars. After the games have a cocktail at Massimo – a pub in the tower of the city walls. To reach it, you need to climb a wooden ladder (skirts are not recommended).

For that final cherry on top treat yourself to an authentic sea food dinner in one of Korcula's many restaurants (we recommend restaurant Mareda in the old city centre) to end the perfect trip around Korcula island.

Charming old Venetian town of Korcula – drink a cocktail in a tower!

5.) Vela Luka (10 min from your house)

Here you can visit Vela Spila cave (https://goo.gl/maps/Qy48jahhDajdCMnD9) that is situated above the town of Vela Luka and is one of the most important prehistoric archaeological localities in Europe.

In Vela Luka is also this olive farm Zlokic (https://goo.gl/maps/taXhhi2EX8NorEdJ9). Small oil mill eco-museum where you can learn about the cultivation of olives and the production of natural oil.

6.) Proizd Island with its magical turquoise pebble beaches! https://goo.gl/maps/WiMAXvKSurEkLxMJ9
The boat Muro which takes you to the island 3 times a day (9 am, 10 am and 11 am). The ride takes approx. 40 minutes and you can return back to Vela Luka at 4 pm, 5pm or 6 pm from Proizd Island.

The boat ride itself is already an adventure. We recommend that you bring a sunshade and some food, however, there is one restaurant on the island where you can buy some water, ice cream or have a Dalmatian lunch (not really a highlight in restaurant offer but nevertheless the grill dishes are quite tasty). Three are a number of pine woods above the beach, so there is some shade. The island has 4 excellent beaches and the last on the left is a nudist beach.

Another charming thing to do is renting a small fisherman’s boat in marina of Lumbarda (ask Mrs.Tanya) with which you can reach the nearby islands in 15 minutes right from your apartment. To rent a small boat (4-5 HP) you don’t need a boat license and the rates are from 55 – 60 €/day. Bigger speed boats require a valid boat’s licence and cost from 120  € (50 HP) - 220 €/day (100 HP). Do be mindful of the afternoon mistral wind as it can get quite strong when returning home (it is best to ask in marina for the weather forecast when renting the boat).

In 2008 Proizd Island was named the island with the most beautiful beaches in Croatia!

7.) Take a walk in Kocje nature park near village Zrnovo (45 driving min away from your house). https://goo.gl/maps/zGCFnhK2JxFUG2Fj8

This natural locality has always been absorbing the attention of local inhabitants of Zrnovo village as well as of visitors, if they get the chance to see it and experience passing through its mystery stone mazes. When walking to Kocje, there are also some fabulous views over the sea, which you don’t want to miss.

8.) Wine Tasting

Toreta Winery (Smokvica): +385981849788 https://maps.app.goo.gl/aKBUBPD65kA4SjLV7?g_st=ic

9.) Olive oil and honey tasting... very interesting experience (near Korcula town)

OPG Komparak https://goo.gl/maps/GVonTJydgq9dfYYb6

10.) Folk Museum and Etno House Barilo (Blato), +38520851623

https://goo.gl/maps/CC9AYBHkXycjSion6

Nestled among the lush surroundings are five delightful dry stone houses, with a large sign of a fork and knife marking the entrance. This homestead exudes a fairytale-like charm that is simply enchanting. Given that the resident fisherman Tonci sets out for his daily catch each morning, it is advisable to reserve your lunch or dinner at least one day in advance. Simply contact Tonci or Marino (his son) on 00 385 95 91 11 308 to secure your booking, mentioning "a Slovenian Tanya" from Adriatic Pearls to ensure priority consideration. Given its immense popularity, obtaining a table can prove challenging. It's a warm, inviting restaurant that's not overly formal or pretentious, making for a truly one-of-a-kind dining experience. Their daily fresh soups are absolutely delicious, and I have a particular fondness for their "plate of all starters" and the "drunken octopus" served with house-made pasta. Love it!

https://g.page/konoba-maslina-korcula?share

It is located along the road at the entrance to Lumbarda. Maslina is perfect if you want great home-made specialties from Korcula: Maslina is all over the island known for its »pogacice« (this are small pittas, soaked in delicious olive oil, that just melt in your mouth) that goes very good with the goat cheese and peppers for starters. They are also famous for their home-made pasta - »Zrnovski« macaroni (with prawns are excellent!). You also won't be sorry if you order the “Pogaca” cake (pizza-like specialty of very good dough, homemade tomato sauce, with grilled aubergines and courgettes, coated with goat cheese and with a dressing made of black olives ...).
